Summary

Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most。

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants。 She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up — she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business。 So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true。

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant。 He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily。 And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt。 Lily can’t get him out of her head。 But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing。 Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place。

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan — her first love and a link to the past she left behind。 He was her kindred spirit, her protector。 When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened。

This book was fine。 It took me forever to read because I lost interest TO BE HONEST。 I think it’s over hyped。 My friend that hasn’t had any action in a few months got excited by the sex “scenes” but I think it was overall pretty predictable。

This is the first book I have read by this author who has become so popular。 I was pleasantly surprised with the great characters and powerful message about a difficult subject which author is personally familiar with。 I will definitely read sequel as I want to know more about Lilly, Atlas, and Ryle。

I was unsure of how to rate this book。 I really liked it but I was not all to happy about the languish with which is what written but then I realised that it was that way so that the book is accessible to everyone。 Which was needed because this is a book about love, priorities and mostly; boundaries。 And everyone should have a chance to read it。 So that one can be understanding or understood。

In the minority with this score! Not what I expected from the cover and blurb on the back。 The plot revolves around domestic violence and abusive relationships but it just felt artificial。 The cringy, clichéd comments throughout the storyline took away from the purpose of the book。 I'm sure it would make a great TV mini series! At first I thought this would be a traditionally rom com love triangle book, but I was so wrong。 Without spoiling it, this book is completely different and really helps you understand the struggles of lily。 I definitely recommend this book because while it was an enjoyable read, it also covered incredibly dark topics in a way that helps you understand people like lily。 The book went from a solid three starts in my mind at first to me debating if it deserved five stars, so stick to it if you feel At first I thought this would be a traditionally rom com love triangle book, but I was so wrong。 Without spoiling it, this book is completely different and really helps you understand the struggles of lily。 I definitely recommend this book because while it was an enjoyable read, it also covered incredibly dark topics in a way that helps you understand people like lily。 The book went from a solid three starts in my mind at first to me debating if it deserved five stars, so stick to it if you feel eh at first like me。 。。。more

I’m not in the mood to be on a soap box so I won’t say anything but if this helps someone then great but I don’t think it necessarily does it in the best way。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 All the characters were well thought out。 I fell in love with Ryle just as Lily did only to have my heart broken。 This novel covers a very sensitive issue: domestic abuse。 We all have heard the heartbreaking stories and some of us have witnessed the lingering scars and the aftermath of it all on those that we love。 When we hear or see these heartbreaking tales, we wonder why the victim simply can’t cut all the ties and leave。 We sit there thinking we are “wiser” and “stronger” than the victim。 W All the characters were well thought out。 I fell in love with Ryle just as Lily did only to have my heart broken。 This novel covers a very sensitive issue: domestic abuse。 We all have heard the heartbreaking stories and some of us have witnessed the lingering scars and the aftermath of it all on those that we love。 When we hear or see these heartbreaking tales, we wonder why the victim simply can’t cut all the ties and leave。 We sit there thinking we are “wiser” and “stronger” than the victim。 We praise those that seem to follow our line of advice and judge those who do the opposite of that。 The decision seems simple to us the outsiders, so why is it so complicated for victims like Lily。 Colleen gives us access to Lily’s thought process and helps us understand the why’s。 It turns out that it is not as simple as we thought it once was。 。。。more

I got this novel on my Kindle a few years back and simply never got around to reading it。 In the meantime I had developed prejudices about Colleen Hoover’s books。 Not negatively necessarily, but just the kind of books I expected they were, expecting they were not for me。 I think this one proved me right, despite dealing with subjectmatter close to my heart。Pretty soon after meeting our ‘hero’ alarm bells went off in my head, as I guess they were supposed to。 I did not like him at all。 I did not I got this novel on my Kindle a few years back and simply never got around to reading it。 In the meantime I had developed prejudices about Colleen Hoover’s books。 Not negatively necessarily, but just the kind of books I expected they were, expecting they were not for me。 I think this one proved me right, despite dealing with subjectmatter close to my heart。Pretty soon after meeting our ‘hero’ alarm bells went off in my head, as I guess they were supposed to。 I did not like him at all。 I did not like the description of him, nothing。 I did not even really like our main girl Lily。 For me there was no real chemistry on the page, not between the characters and not between me and them。 The dialogue soon got tiresome and just did not work for me。 About a 100 pages in I kind of knew where the story was heading, but I was intrigued enough to keep reading, despite my only average enjoyment。I think the conversations in this novel are important and the epilogue told me that the author was writing from experience。 I appreciated this novel for sure, having been in a less than savoury past relationship myself。 I think the novel and the story would have had made more of an impact on me if I had actually connected to Lily, but unfortunately I did not。This is not a bad novel by any means。 In fact, I liked large parts of it。 The writing style in general was absolutely fine and I actually liked the secondary storyline with Atlas, though I wished it had not been told through journal entries as they seemed a bit… unrealistic as journal entries。 However, the themes are important to me, even if I am not sure I want to read about it。So, my conclusion is that I appreciate Colleen Hoover as an author and this type of story。 I recognise this really is a decent novel, but I do not think I would read from her again。 It simply is not my kind of book。 。。。more

I mean I get where he’s coming from but he could have definitely said that differently。 Then he proceeds to tell her that he wants to fuck her out of the blue??? That is manipulation at it’s finest 3。 I found the letters to Ellen a Bit weird。 I guess it’s because we know now that she isn’t as nice as she seems? Idk I just didn’t like how this little girl wrote letters to a celebrity talking about making out and sex in them。 4。 THE AGE GAP LILY-ATLAS!! I know 2,5-3 years isn’t that big of an age gab but I feel like it depends on how old both of them are。 I just felt really uncomfortable reading about a 15 year old girl making out with an 18 year old5。 It annoyed me that Lily got back together with Ryle after every incident。。 I know that she was in love but I just didn’t like it。 I just have no tolerance for violence I guessI don’t judge anyone that loved this book but it just wasn’t something that I enjoyed。 My expectations were probably way to high。I don’t want to offended anyone (reader nor the author) but just wanted to put that out there 。。。more
